Russell H. Packer is a Partner at the Henberger Group, a merger and acquisition advisory firm based in San Diego. Henberger assists owners of privately held middle market businesses with exit planning and transaction services.
Russ has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions as an advisor underpinned by M&A experience as a senior financial executive. Prior to joining Henberger, he was a Partner at the Delphos Group after beginning his advisory career as a Principal at another firm. With these firms, Russ provided investment banking services to middle-market clients in industries as varied as technology/defense, business services, and for-profit education.
His corporate career began at the Automobile Club of Southern California, starting as a financial analyst and becoming the manager of financial and investment analysis. The focus of his tenure at the Automobile Club was corporate growth and portfolio management.
Russ was recruited to be the Director of Finance and promoted to Vice President of Planning and Administration in the Coca-Cola Bottling Companies, where he completed and integrated two key strategic acquisitions in the western United States.
Russ then joined Sunroad Enterprises, a privately owned business group with interests in real estate, banking, and automotive retail as the company's Vice President and Division Controller. During his tenure, the Sunroad automotive group revenue grew to $138 million, including new dealership start-ups and acquisitions.
Remaining in the automotive industry, Russ was recruited as CFO of a business and technology services subsidiary of the Ford Motor Company, called Geometric Results Inc. (GRI). He served as Chief Financial Officer for eight years, leading the company's financial, corporate information technology, and human resources operations. During that time, Ford/GRI expanded from $38 million in US revenue to global operations in Europe and Asia with revenue over $800 million, achieved through a combination of organic growth and three strategic acquisitions.
Russ has provided CFO-level strategic financial consulting and mentoring to CEO owners of private companies in technology, manufacturing, and business services.
Russ earned his B.S. in Business Administration and his MBA in Finance from the University of Southern California.
Russ has also served as an adjunct lecturer in finance at California State University - Los Angeles and at San Diego State University. He is past Board member and President of the San Diego chapter of Financial Executives International (FEI), and served as Treasurer and Board Member of the March of Dimes' San Diego chapter.
